 Jimmy's Show

The Jimmy Conrad Show is going all goalkeepers, all the time tonight as our friends Kevin Hartman and former Wizards 'keeper Will Hesmer join Jimmy and Wheels tonight. Hartman will be live at McFadden's (starting at 8 p.m. CT) and Hesmer, of course, over the phone from C-Bus. Check them out in person or listen at 810 WHB in KC or online at kcwizards.com or MLSnet.com.

Hillcrest out.

 First Seen on Hillcrest Road

Many of you remember the rundown of former Wizards players who are now coaches/Technical Directors/player personnel guys in MLS. Well, the KC Star took notice as well. Read our breakdown of the list from February 1 here, then read Bob Luder's take on the subject with quotes from many of the individuals here at kcstar.com.

The bottom of the article has a quick bit on the signings of Pizarro (left) and Souter (right), with a couple of quotes from Souter. Here's a picture of the pair yesterday after practice.

 Unbelievable Soccer Commercial

Apologies to the League contract with adidas, but Nike just introduced a ridiculously sweet football (soccer) ad. Many of you have already seen this, as it made the rounds today on several soccer blogs. If you haven't been lucky enough, here's the full version of the ad on Nike's website. Not joking folks; this ad is great. Send your friends; even if they don't like soccer. It's a fun one.

 Transactions

Hello everyone, just wanted to give you a heads up on two transactions. Midfielders Nelson Pizarro and Kevin Souter are in for midfielder Amir Lowery and defender Yomby William. Both Pizarro and Souter were first seen at the open tryout back in February at KC Sports Lodge. As you know, Souter went on to Argentina with the team and has been training with us since. He received his paperwork yesterday. Pizarro was also a standout at the open trial and came back to train off-and-on throughout pre-season training and into the season.

Check out the main page at kcwizards.com for a clip from Pizarro on his signing. Press release is coming shortly.

 Espinoza Story

If you haven't already, check out your sports section front page and read the great story done by our friend Bob Luder about rookie midfielder Roger Espinoza. Espinoza, a native on Honduras, experienced a bit of a tough childhood to get here, but he has some wonderful intentions now that he's paid to play the sport he loves. Check out the story online here and post comments so the Star knows how much you love your soccer coverage.

Also, look below for some words from Robb Heineman regarding the stadium. GOOD STUFF.

I'll post pictures as soon as Ficklin lets me.

I think we're there. I saw a draft today and we need to get it priced. Assuming it comes out like we think, we'll post it. Ficklin, how long to get a bid back? We've been waiting for these pictures forever.... :) rh

 Podcast Page Spicing Up

Hello everyone. We're still having trouble with that nifty little audio clip trick here at Hillcrest Road, but our audio library online is getting better than ever. With Dave Borchardt now putting his radio know-how to work, we will have clips after most practice sessions from players and coaches. Check out these clips, our anthem from Blackpool Lights and archives of The Jimmy Conrad Show here at our spiffy podcast page.

 Happy Monday

Greetings Hillcrest Road readers, wanted to check in this morning and pass along a couple of links I missed this weekend. First, Commissioner Garber posted his second blog on Friday, focusing on nationwide media coverage of our League and sport and the inaugural World Malaria Day. Check it out here.

Also, The Offside Rules featured some recipes that have been available at kcwizards.com for a while. See the always funny post from SF here. Also, after you read there, head back to the home page for a great picture of a fan at La Bombonera climbing a fence in a Columbus Crew Schelotto jersey. MLS is coming. World beware.

Many of you already know, but for those of you who don't, here's a heads up. Mike over at Down the Byline and two of his cronies have had a fantasy draft of all-time Wizards players and are having fans vote on who has compiled the best team. Head over to www.downthebyline.com now to vote!

 Reserves Stay Unbeaten

The word is out about the KCW Reserves. Don't relax if you jump out to an early lead. For the third time this season, our reserves fell behind. For the third time this season, we earned a result. This time, after trailing 2-0, we rallied for a 3-2 win on the strength of a late Jonathan Leathers goal.

Since I didn't see the goals, I can't give exact details. McMahen's was a "rocket of a free kick from 24 yards out." Marquess banged his home off several deflections from close range after an excellent pass from Pizarro and flick from Leathers. Pizarro freed Leathers on a breakaway for the winner. That's all I've got. Lineups/minutes of goals below:

Toronto FC Reserves (0-1-0) – Brian Edwards, Todd Dunivant (Joey Melo 78), Julius James, Olivier Tebily, Pat Phelan, Gabe Gala, Kevin Harmse, Tyler Rosenlund, Jarrod Smith, Andrea Lombardo, Jeff Cunningham (Nana Attakora-Gyan 46)

Subs Not Used: Kilian Elkinson

KCW Reserves (2-0-1) – Eric Kronberg, Jonathan Leathers, Rauwshan McKenzie, Aaron Hohlbein, Matt Marquess, Nelson Pizarro, Ryan McMahen, Carlos Marinelli (Michael Kraus 33), Sasha Victorine (Yomby William 46), Eloy Colombano, Scott Sealy

Subs Not Used: Boris Pardo, Geoff Miles, Josh Howard

Scoring Summary:

TFC: Jarrod Smith (Jeff Cunningham) 6’
TFC: Jeff Cunnningham (Andrea Lombardo) 26’
KC: Ryan McMahen 43’
KC: Matt Marquess (Jonathan Leathers, Nelson Pizarro) 71’
KC: Jonathan Leathers (Nelson Pizarro) 77’

Misconduct Summary :

Caution – KC - Scott Sealy 10’
Caution – TFC – Kevin Harmse 12’
Caution – KC – Michael Kraus 58’
Caution – KC – Ryan McMahen 90+’

BTW- Columbus didn't cooperate and got a 1-0 victory today, meaning we are now tied for 2nd place. We travel to CLB next weekend for a second first-place showdown in two weeks. Winning will move us back to the top of the table. The game will be on FSC, so check it out.

Hillcrest out.

 Game Day #6

TFC held the home-field advantage and won by a 2-0 score line this afternoon. Honduran midfielder Amado Guevara showed why his was the MLS MVP a couple of seasons back for New York, playing opportunist on the first goal and striking a beautiful free kick for the second.

The KCW Reserves are playing TFC's reserve team currently on the game field at BMO.

KCW lineup-Kronberg, Leathers, McKenzie, Hohlbein, Marquess, Pizarro, McMahen, Marinelli, Victorine, Colombano, Sealy

subs- Pardo, William, Kraus, Miles*, Howard*

Toronto scored an early goal through New Zealand native Jarrod Smith. More details later

Post your thoughts on the game below. If you made it to a watch party, how was the experience?

 Game Tomorrow

Hey everyone, the guys practiced on Field 3 today and yesterday, getting ready for the FieldTurf surface at BMO Field. Check out some pictures from our friend Thad at his new blog here. I got crushed for this last week, but can I re-promise that the watch parties will be excellent? We had a mishap last weekend, but things are all squared away. Here's a blurb from the game-preview release sent earlier this morning:

Fans in Kansas City will have two great places to see the match, as Barley’s Brewhaus in Shawnee and O’Dowd’s Little Dublin at Zona Rosa. Each location will feature drink special, and Wizards staff will be on hand at each location with giveaway items that include: one jersey, one autographed team ball, mini soccer balls, posters and tickets. The Wizards next play a home match Saturday, June 14 against the Columbus Crew at 7 p.m. CT.

If this one goes poorly, I will stop pumping them up here at Hillcrest Road.

Hillcrest out.

It's Like the New Toy You Won't Put Down

So this audio thing is pretty spiffy. So much so, that we're posting a second audio clip in about 15 minutes. Very nice. Here, midfielder Kurt Morsink discusses the upcoming match against Toronto and the atmosphere at BMO Field.

**Hmm, so we're not as smart as we thought. If you're experiencing difficulties, go to www.kcwizards.com for these clips**

 Nifty New Trick

After a couple days of tinkering, Hillcrest Road has finally perfected the art of uploading audio files to the blog. We are now able to post pictures (thanks Blogger), videos (thanks YouTube) and audio files (special thanks to Mike from RBNY). Check out the first audio clip, a few of the guys talking about Arne Riise's blunder the other day and how they might feel in the same situation. Props to PR guru Dave Borchardt for doing the interviews like he did back in the day at 810 WHB.

 Rando Thoughts

Greetings everyone, I wanted to give a shout-out to the kids of Plaza Middle School, Heroes Team who were lucky enough to hear a career-day speech from Hillcrest Road today. Hopefully they were able to take something from the talk; I certainly enjoyed myself. One of the kids from Plaza will be a special guest blogger at some point in the season, so be prepared for that.

Some of you have probably seen the 30-second commercials on Time Warner Cable channels that feature highlights from last year with some cool freeze-frame effects. Our friends at Liquid 9 produced those for us and got a little love on the web in a story published here at broadcastnewsroom.com. Good stuff. Thanks to the people of Liquid 9. They are great partners to deal with. Check them out at www.iloveliquid9.com.

Many of you saw the Barry Manilow contest promoted on our website and by Star102. The lucky winner was Penny Johnson of Merriam. Penny and one guest will receive a limo ride to Phillips Chophouse inside Hotel Phillips then on to Sprint Center for Manilow: An Evening of Music and Passion and then returned home again via limo after the show. Penny also received a Wizards jersey autographed by Manilow and tickets to a match. Congrats Penny. Enjoy!

Also, a former Wizards employee Gregg Hibbeler won an award for his youth coaching this week. Hibbeler, a coach at QWEST Soccer Club, will receive a Responsible Coaching Award and $500 grant for his focus on creating a positive, character-building experience for young athletes. Liberty Mutual will present Hibbeler with the grant tonight at one of his team's practices. Congrats Gregg, and good work.

The Jimmy Conrad Show Tonight at McFadden's

Cristiano Ronaldo wants that PK back. Finish and they're sitting pretty. Now it looks like Man U could be in trouble.

Our own superstar, however, will have a good night tonight. Captain Kansas City Jimmy Conrad will again host his weekly show, aptly named The Jimmy Conrad Show, live from McFadden's in downtown's Power & Light District from 8-9 p.m. this evening. Starting 11 Girls will be present, so head on out and watch/listen as Jimmy and voice of the Wizards Sean Wheelock grill our own midfielder Jack Jewsbury and TFC defender Todd Dunivant.

The show will be aired live in Kansas City on 810 WHB or online at kcwizards.com and MLSnet.com. If you can't make it to McFadden's, please listen in.

 Congratulations Atlas

Partner club Atlas AC advanced to the round of 16 in Copa Libertadores last night with a 1-1 tie against Colo Colo of Chile. Atlas finished atop their group with 11 points, one point clear of both Boca Juniors and Colo Colo. Boca also advanced on goal differential ahead of Colo Colo. For more ont he game, click here.

 Almost Forgot-Lopez Story

Oops, almost forgot to post this. Glenn Davis, writing for the Houston Chronicle, caught up with Piojo and Coach Onalfo this week for a great article that appeared online today. Check it out here, and let us know if you agree with his comments below. Claudio's pass into space for Jewsbury Sunday was truly magnificent.

 Liverpool Wins... Errr Ties/Power Rankings/More

Happy Earth Day everyone! Hopefully you've celebrated it by planting a tree, not buying way overpriced gas and using recycled bags at Target, Wal-Mart or wherever you choose to shop. How about the UEFA Champions' League match today? Liverpool snatched tie from the hands of victory with a last-gasp own-goal by John Arne Riise. Wouldn't want to be that guy on the streets of Merseyside. Hopefully, for his sake, he scores the winner next week at Stamford Bridge.

In other news, Coach Onalfo did a great segment on 810 WHB today, hopefully some of you heard it. We're working on getting the audio from that to share with everyone either here or at kcwizards.com. Also, the Wizards sit atop the power rankings by both ESPN Soccernet and Soccer by Ives. Good stuff lads.

Also, congrats to former Wizards forward Chris Brown, who was named first team all-USL1 after scoring the game-winning goal last weekend for Portland Timers. Well done, Brownie.

 Soccer Lovin' From the Star

Even with the Wizards on an off day, the Kansas City Star gave some love to the soccer fans out there. Samuel Siringi, a guest journalist from Kenya, published this article about today and tomorrow's UEFA Champions' League semifinal matches between Liverpool-Chelsea and Manchester United-Barcelona. Let the Star know you're happy about their extended coverage of the real football. Post a comment about the story or email your thoughts to Samuel at ssiringi@kcstar.com.

Who is everyone betting on to win UEFA CL? I know we have a small sect of Liverpeople among Wizards supporters, but who else has a vested interest? Post in the comments below.

 KCW Juniors

Hello everyone, checking in with a KCW Juniors update from the weekend. These will begin coming more frequently from here on out. If you haven't seen, we've got some exciting stuff coming up. Read the release here from kcwizards.com about our expanded program this season and our joining the U.S. Soccer Development Academy program in 2009. When we move into the Academy, our U-16 and U-18 squads will be FULLY FUNDED. This will include coaching fees, tournament entry fees, league fees, uniform fees and travel costs.

Now back to the present. This weekend, the U-15s went 2-0-0 in Midwest Regional League play, earning a 3-0 victory over the 2007 Wisconsin State Champions and a 7-0 victory. The U-16s went 1-1-1, also in Midwest Regional League play.

For U-15 league info and standings, click here.

For U-16 league info and standings, click here.

The U-17s were off this weekend.

 Game Day #5

Great win! GREAT BALL Lopez! How similar to MLS Cup 2000? We win by a 1-0 score line and Barrett sails the ball over the bar like Gutierrez at RFK.

Will be back with more later, but I wanted to give everyone the KCW Reserves lineup in the reserve match currently taking place. Will be back with Chicago's lineup and other info later.

KCW- Kronberg, William, McKenzie, Hohlbein, Marquess, Leathers, McMahen, Victorine, Kraus, Colombano, Trujillo

 New to the Blogosphere

Hello everyone; happy Saturday. Just got done watching TFC-RSL. Fun game to watch. Should be a good match-up when we travel north of the border next weekend. I wanted to take this time to welcome The Don, our commissioner Don Garber, to blogville. He started his blog yesterday at MLSnet.com with some pretty intriguing thoughts. Check it out every other Friday (or whenever he decides in between) at http://web.mlsnet.com/commissionerspeaks.

As always, Mr. Garber is a pleasure to listen to or read. Enjoy. See everyone at one of the watch party locales tomorrow. Go you Wiz!

 Watch Party Locations

Howdy partners, I hope it's a good Friday for you all. The boys in blue head on the road for the first time this season when the face the Chicago Fire at 2 p.m. CT Sunday. You all know what that means: Watch parties! We understand that these have been hit or miss in the past, but promise that they will be all-hit, all the time this year. Our three locations (Barley's Brewhaus on Midland Drive in Lenexa, and the O'Dowd's both on the Plaza and at Zona Rosa) have expressed their great interest in hosting us and our fans.

We put out a release about them yesterday and have a page dedicated to them at kcwizards.com here. Sunday there will be Starting 11 Girls at Barley's and the O'Dowd's at Zona Rosa giving away some items. Head out to any of the three locations to catch some footie with friends.

If you're still undecided about attending, here are a few more reasons to go:

For the practical- "It's a great way for you to get together with fellow fans to root on your team at a popular watering hole." Adam Meloan, Experience Development

For the domineering- "There's power in numbers." Martie Harter, the Godmother (Human Resources)

For the drinker- "There's nothing better than watching soccer with some fun, drunken fans." Margot the intern

For the Cauldronite- "Because I will be at the Zona Rosa up north." Chad Reynolds, Graphic Design

For the hungry- "Because the Monte Cristo sandwhich at O'Dowd's is Heaven on earth!" Amber, Starting 11 Girl

For the Fire hater- "So you can high-five other fans when Blanco gets his a** handed to him" also Amber, Starting 11 Girl

For the nostalgic- "To remember with a crowd the jubilation you felt watching the Wizards beat the Fire for both of our pieces of silverware." Kyle Rogers, Hillcrest Road

And finally- "What else is there to do at 2 p.m. on the Sabbath?" Shawn Quesnell, VP of Finance

Crashing the Cauldron Takes the Cake

Greetings Hillcrest Road faithful, it looks as if we have a winner. Those of you to look on the right side of the page recently will see that the poll is closed, and "Crashing the Cauldron" will be the name of our favorite goal celebration. The boys won't be back home until June 14, so hopefully they still remember how to jump those field boards after a long road swing. For those of you who haven't seen, this is what it looks like when someone Crashes the Cauldron:

Pretty sight, isn't it? Kudos to George Shook for throwing out the name originally. Well done, friend.

Chicago Learns About Captain Kansas City

We all know Mr. Conrad is quite the humorist. Luis Arroyave of the Chicago Tribune got a little lesson in that fact this morning when JC stopped by to give him a list of things people should know about our favorite center back (apologies to Tyson Wahl and Aaron Hohlbein but not Eddie Robinson). Check out what Jimmy came up with here.

BTW, reason number five is FREAKING HILARIOUS, especially for a Chicago publication.

 Conrad Wishes Wizards Well

Captain Kansas City stopped for a moment after practice today to wish the Unicorn Wizards of Manchester England good luck this weekend. They play a big six-pointer against the first place team whom the Wizards trail by only one point. With four matches to go, Unicorn Wizards are sitting pretty for some possible silverware.

Also, don't forget to stop by McFadden's from 7-8 tonight for The Jimmy Conrad Show. The show will also air live on 810 WHB and at kcwizards.com.

 Robinson Suspended

Looks like Tyson Wahl didn't cut open his own lip. Houston defender Eddie Robinson has been suspended three games and fined $1,000 for the incident in the 47th minute minute. Wahl was forced to come off the pitch for several minutes while trainer Chet North fixed up his badly cut lip.

See the play here:

Too bad no one saw the play until afterward. Playing a man up the rest of the second half couldn't have hurt.

 Trujillo QnA

Happy Hump Day folks. Hopefully this Wednesday goes quickly and gets you to a weekend of soccer action soon. Celtic and Rangers square off today in an old firm match. I'm trying to figure out how Cristiano Ronaldo will score in THAT match to increase his mind-boggling total. If anyone can do it, he can.

Yesterday after practice, Hillcrest Road/kcwizards.com caught up with Colombian forward Ivan Trujillo for some quick comments. He discussed his favorite movies, quality of play in MLS and more. Check it out here.

 Unicorn Wizards/BP Blog

Hey Everyone, don't you wish we had this weather last Saturday night? The weather outside in KC is gorgeous. Unfortunately, spring might skip Wizards home games altogether this season since we don't have another home match until June 14. Buzz kill. We are confident in the road abilities of the boys, however, and everyone knows Coach Onalfo won't sit back and play for ties.

Just got word from England that our friends the Unicorn Wizards got a big 1-0 win this weekend and, with four games left, trail the league leaders by a single point. It seems the Kansas City Wizards aren't the only ones with a first-place match-up this Sunday. Unicorn Wizards play first place Stretford Vics earlier that day with some silverware on the line. Go Wizards! Twice!

 Allergy Sensitive Menu

Hello from the FO. Just wanted to take a minute and let you all know about a new food initiative out at CAB. If you have a food allergy, or if your child has a food allergy, you know all too well how difficult it is to eat out of the house. Reading food labels becomes part of your everyday routine, and it darn near breaks your heart when your child can't have a treat with his or her friends at a ballgame. I know from personal experience, as my daughter has a severe dairy allergy that knocks ice cream, pizza, and many other treats off of her menu.

Working with our concessions partner, CenterPlate, the Wizards are pleased to announce that for all Wizards home games this season, we will vend allergy-sensitive food items at the British Isles concession stand. As with any allergy sensitivity, be sure to review the ingredients in detail before you order. The staff at the British Isles will be able to produce a menu for you, and answer any questions you may have about ingredients. The menu is as follows:

Turkey Corndogs – No Wheat, No Gluten, No Casein, No Milk, No Eggs, No Nuts, No Soy

Ice Cream Sandwich (Vanilla or Chocolate) – Lactose Free

French Toast Stick – No Wheat, No Gluten, No Casein, No Milk, No Eggs, No Nuts, No Soy

Popcorn Chicken Nuggets – No Wheat, No Gluten, No Casein, No Milk, No Eggs, No Nuts, No Soy

Ice Cream Bars – Lactose Free

Cinnamon Apple Doughnut – Gluten Free

Apple Cookies, Lemon Cookies, Chocolate Chip – Nut and Gluten Free

Crispy Rice Bars (Berry, Peanut Butter and Chocolate) – Gluten Free

Chocolate Banana Organic Bars – Gluten Free

Nanas Cookies (Chocolate / Banana) – No Gluten, No Eggs, No Dairy, No Refined Sugar

Chocolate Brownies – Gluten Free

Pretzels Salted – Wheat Free, Gluten Free

Pretzels Unsalted – Wheat Free, Dairy Free

Chocolate Syrup – Gluten Free, Peanut Free, Dairy Free, Sodium Free

For the record, my daughter loved the popcorn chicken nuggets.... Please let us know what you think. All comments are appreciated!

 Interesting Look at MLS Attendance

Pete Grathoff of the KC Star published an interesting report today about MLS attendance compared to that of more established leagues throughout the world. Check out his report here. We're not doing so bad, considering we've only been around since 1996 and the rest have existed for many, many years in most cases.

See the attendances here:

Country Avg. Att.
Bundesliga (Germany) 37,644
English Premier League 34,459
La Liga (Spain) 28,838
Clausura (Mexico) 25,379
Ligue 1 (France) 21,817
Serie A (Italy) 19,711
J.League (Japan) 19,081
Eredivisie (Holland) 18,052
Campeonato (Brazil) 17,461
Primera (Argentina) 17,363
Major League Soccer 16,770
Scottish Premier League 16,194
Turkish Premier Super 14,058
A-League (Australia) 14,042

 Back From Hibernation

Woah, sorry folks. Hillcrest Road had its first prolonged hiatus. I must say; I didn't like it. We're back, however, and ready to kick off the next stretch of games. Four matches in 15 days left everyone on staff a bit tired, but after Sunday and Monday to recharge, it's time to get back after it.

As many of you have seen, the Reserves beat Memphis 5-0 Sunday at Swope. It was a great match that we utterly dominated. The first four goals came in the opening 27 minutes and we tacked one on after halftime. Colombano had 2, and Trujill0, McMahen and Pore added one each. The boys from Memphis got a quick tour of the training facility. They were pretty impressed, taking pictures and asking questions of the players.

We face Chicago this Sunday in another nationally televised game on TelaFutura. The match-up features former Club America stars Claudio Lopez and Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Those two had some pretty good days with America while Piojo played there from 2004-2006. Together they won the Clausura in 2005 and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 2006. Check out an incredible goal scored by Lopez and assisted by Blanco here:

At the 33 second mark, you can actually see all three former Club America players currently in MLS. Lopez and Blanco embrace, then Duilio Davino (FC Dallas) joins in the celebration. Good stuff.

 Kansas City-Houston Thoughts

For a 0-0 tie, that was a pretty entertaining match. Watching Jimmy Conrad and Tyson Wahl butt heads (sometimes literally) with Brian Ching, Franco Caraccio and Dwayne De Rosario was a treat. Conrad is showing why he is considered one of the best defenders in MLS.

Both Chance Myers and Roger Espinoza acquitted themselves very well in their first MLS starts. Myers dealt like a veteran with Ching, Caraccio and Houston's dangerous wingers. Espinoza was all over the place and played some very dangerous balls into Claudio Lopez and company.

Kerry Zavagnin tied Nick Garcia's mark for all-time appearances for the Wizards with his 224th appearance. Zavagnin entered for Marinelli at the 26-minute mark after Marinelli appeared to tweak a groin in the early going.

Hartman did very well on a couple of saves. Punching De-Ro's shot over the bar and pushing Davis' shot off the bar were a couple of very classy plays. He almost created a couple of goals also with his early long balls.

Reserves play tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against University of Memphis at Swope. See some of you there?

 Game Day #4

Greetings everyone from brisk CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The crowd is starting to file in and the players are warming up on the pitch. Kansas City looks to move to 3-1-0 while Houston looks for their first win of the season. The game will be broadcast on HDNet, so those of you with those fancy screens and that extra tier of channels should enjoy. Everyone else, enjoy MLSnet.com match tracker.

Lineups:

KCW-Hartman, Myers, Conrad, Wahl, Harrington, Jewsbury, Morsink, Marinelli, Espinoza, Lopez, Sealy

subs-Kronberg, Arnaud, Colombano, Hohlbein, Leathers, Trujillo, Zavagnin

HOU-Caig, Mulrooney, Boswell, Robinson, Barrett, Mullan, Clark, De Rosario, Davis, Caraccio, Ching

subs-Waller, Ashe, Brown, Cameron, Holden, Ianni, Wondolowski

Match-ups of note: Kansas City's right midfielder Jack Jewsbury and Houston's left midfielder Brad Davis each attended St. Louis University. In fact, the pair were roommates for two years. Should make for some interesting idle chatter on the wings.

Houston defender Eddie Robinson was listed as doubtful on the injury report, but is slated to start.

Houston is without Craig Waibel and Pat Onstad due to injuries.

Autograph Signing/Salsa in the Streets MOVED

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you all know that the autograph signing portion of the evening tomorrow and Salsa in the Streets prior to the match have changed locations due to weather concerns. After the match, head to Dave & Buster's for autograph signing. For those of you who went to the post-match party last weekend for the KU/UNC viewing party, it will be in the same room. Those of you new to D&B after the match will be directed as you enter. The room is in the very back of the place near the ticket exchange center.

Salsa in the Streets has now become Salsa in Corona Cantina. #1 The event will move inside the bar/restaurant so that everyone can stay toasty warm. Our players/mascot/Starting 11 Girls will still be present from 3:30-5 p.m., but don't look for them outside. It's going to be a cold one.

 Match Tomorrow/Salsa in the Streets

Happy Friday folks, keep on voting in the celebration naming contest. I have to admit, my choice is losing miserably. I cast the first vote for Caulrdonizing and, well, only six people have followed me. Ouch.

Everyone ready for tomorrow night's match? It's going to be chilly and windy, but the match-up should be an intriguing one. Again we face a team that could be shorthanded. Onstad, Robinson, Waibel and Holden come in with injuries. No word yet on who is available and who is not. We're actually getting healthy. Arnaud could be available after playing 45 minutes in the reserve match. Myers and Espinoza played Wednesday and looked pretty solid. They will be available. Zavagnin left early with a knee contusion, but he is probable on the injury report. If he plays, he'll tie Nick Garcia's mark for all-time MLS games played for the Wizards.

Tomorrow is team poster/autograph night. Stay after the match for autographs from the guys. The team poster looks great. You'll get to peep it tomorrow. Don't forget to head to Dave & Buster's afterward for food, drinks and games.

Starting 11 Girls, players and Dynamo will be present as The Legends holds a Salsa in the Streets event that is open to the general public. The event features live music, free salsa lessons. Head on out to The Legends (near the Smokestack Tower) between 3:30-5p.m. for some fun for all ages.

 'Wizards Make Magical Link-Up'

Apparently our relationship with the Unicorn Wizards is big news over in the greater Manchester area. Hillcrest Road... err Kyle Rogers... even got a quote in the paper. Great stuff. These kids are pretty fun to follow and are obviously big Kansas City Wizards supporters. I'll keep the updates coming if you like them, and maybe we can get a few more YouTube's from them along the way.

Read the article about our link-up here. We'll have more on this in the coming days/weeks/months.

KCW Reserves 2-2 New England Reserves

**Updated with lineups**

The reserves tied New England 2-2 this morning on a soggy (but not rainy) field at Swope. Goals for our boys by Ryan Pore and Geoff Miles (guest player). Argenis Fernandez scored two for New England. From the press release:

Kansas City opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through midfielder Ryan Pore. Pore picked up a loose ball on the left flank and served a curling ball toward the back post from 30 yards out. The ball skipped through the penalty area and eluded several players from each team before bouncing off the right post and into the goal for a 1-0 Wizards lead.

New England answered back almost immediately, drawing level in the 30th minute through Costa Rican attacker Argenis Fernandez. Forward Kheli Dube played Fernandez behind the defense up the right channel. Wizards goalkeeper Eric Kronberg was quick off his line, but Fernandez lofted an early chip over Kronberg’s outstretched arms and into the open net to tie the score 1-1.

The Revs pushed ahead in the 69th minute again through Dube and Fernandez. This time, Dube collected a deflected ball in the penalty area and slid a pass square for Fernandez 10 yards from goal. Fernandez’s first-time shot from close range left Kronberg helpless, and New England had a 2-1 lead.

Kansas City tied the match in the 81st minute to earn a point in its first Reserve Division match of the season. Midfielder Michael Kraus worked up the right flank behind the Revolution defense and won the end line before sliding the ball across the face of the goal. Guest player Geoff Miles made a well-timed run to the back-post, meeting the ball ahead of a New England defender and tapping home from inside the six-yard area to tie the game 2-2.

New England is now 0-1-1 in Reserve Division play after a 3-0 loss last Friday at Chicago Fire. The Revs next Reserve Division match comes Sunday, April 20 at Red Bull New York. The KCW Reserves next play Sunday, April 20 against Chicago Fire.

 Game Day # 3

Howdy folks, welcome to match day 3 here in MLS action. Could be a bit chilly and rainy, so if you're considering what to wear, make sure to pack your Wizards jacket/coat/poncho (or purchase one at the merch stands!). Temperatures should hover right around 50 tonight. Both teams are used to this, as New England played its first match in very brisk weather in the Northeast and followed it up with a chilly trip to Chicago. Our first match was in the mid-fifties.

As I've said every match, the playing surface looks wonderful, and there is even more blue in the stadium that previously as more signage has come in. Come out early for "Experience the Legends" outside the stadium, where our neighbors to the north-east will show off their wares. Everyone in attendance gets buy $10, get $10 free game cards from Dave & Buster's.

Bruce Arena will again join Sean Wheelock on the broadcast, so if you're on your way to CAB, TiVo for Coach's commentary. Keep on voting on our celebration name, hopefully you guys are enjoying the input!

 Celebration Naming/Welcome to Bloggerville

Alright ladies and gentlefellows, the vote is on. Help us name the post-goal celebration that makes all of us giddy. The options, as you will see on the upper right until next Wednesday at noon, are as follows:

-Cauldron Catapult
-Crashing the Cauldron
-Stirring the Caulrdon
-Into the Pot
-Cauldronizing
-CAB Hop (Hillcrest Hop beginning in 2010)

Let your voices be heard please.

In other news, let's welcome another voice to the Kansas City Wizards blogging family. In addition to our already great roster of fan bloggers (I'm not naming you here in case I forget someone), Mike Cross will be checking in regularly at Soccer by Ives. Read his first installment here and keep on reading over at SBI in the coming weeks/months/years?.

 Celebration Naming/Some Good Star Articles

Hey everyone, thanks a million for all the suggestions about what to name our newest favorite celebration. I don't think the Digital Crawl is coming back, but if you guys tell Jimmy that's what you want the next time he nets two, he just might oblige. We'll whittle those down to five choices and post another poll on the site. I think this one might get a few more hits than our coyote-naming contest, thought that was fun.

We've been getting some love in the Star the last couple days. Mike Hendricks, long-time season ticket holder and supporter, gave us and CAB some props in his article about sports' influence on our town yesterday (I should have posted it then!) found here.

Pete Grathoff also checked in today at kcstar.com with his MLS Notebook. It doesn't make the paper, so check out the good stuff here.

Don't forget about tomorrow's $3 beer and $3 toasted ravioli (yum!) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. We take on the Revs at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 5. See you all there.

 We Want Your Help

Alright guys, you were at the stadium. You saw the goals. You saw the leap--or the jump--or whatever it was. Now we want your help naming it. When Jimmy Conrad and later Scott Sealy removed themselves from the playing field and nearly entered fandom in the Cauldron, what were they doing? If it were after a Green Bay Packers touchdown, it would be called Lambeau Leap. What do you, the Wizards fan, call that fine celebration we saw two times this weekend?

Submit names in the comments section please.

Watch the winner again here:

 Wacky Wednesday

Happy Monday folks. It's nice to be sitting atop the table (and atop the Power Rankings at Soccer by Ives and ESPN Soccernet). Now let's stay there! The guys are off today and will practice tomorrow morning at Swope at 10 a.m. before playing games this week Wednesday (New England; 7 p.m.), Thursday (Reserves vs. New England; 9 a.m. at Swope), Saturday (Houston; 7 p.m.) and Sunday (Reserves vs. University of Memphis; 10 a.m. at Swope).

Also, Wednesday's match will feature $3 beer and $3 toasted ravioli thanks to our food partners Centerplate. That should make for a fun evening and hopefully a few more goals in the direction of the Cauldron! Tell your friends about the special and get them out for some good food, good beer and great soccer.

 WIZARDS WIN

Wow what a second half! The final 45 minutes saw five goals between the teams, including an 87th-minute game-winner from substitute Scott Sealy. Conrad had two off set pieces, both assisted by Marinelli.

The boys joined the Cauldron for some serious celebrating after the second and third goals as the fans went wild. Back with more in a bit. Enjoy these great pictures from Scott Pribyl:

 Game Day #2

Kickoff is upon us. The game kicks off in about 1 hour, 30 minutes and fans are starting to enter CAB. The field looks impeccable once again, and the weather is perfect for an afternoon soccer match. Coach Arena is in the building prepping for the call today with Wheelock. He's staying with Onalfo while in town and mentioned the favorable cost of living for those of us in the Midwest.

Ran across a great post from Mr. Tony Felich from Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Overland Park. Felich posts regularly on his blog, and had a great post this morning about his recent season ticket purchase and the team. Very cool read.

I'll be back in 30 minutes with starting lineups.

Oops...missed the return time. Lineups:

KCW-Hartman, Leathers, Conrad, Wahl, Harrington, Jewsbury, Zavagnin, Marinelli, Pore, Lopez, Trujillo

subs: Kronberg, Myers, Morsink, Hohlbein, Colombano, Espinoza, Sealy

COL-Condoul, Kimura, Erpen, Keel, Burciaga, Cooke, DiRaimondo, LaBrocca, Clark, C. Gomez, Cummings

 Soccer Volleyball Fundraiser Follow-Up

As we posted yesterday, five Wizards players (Jack Jewsbury, Ryan McMahen, Kurt Morsink, Michael Kraus and Jonathan Leathers) took on a group from St. Gabriel's Middle School. Our players could only use legal soccer touches, while those from St. Gabriel's played with standard volleyball rules. The Wizards won the best-of-three series two games to one. See some highlights and sound bites below, courtesy of Sean at MLSnet.

As you can see, the event was a lot of fun. The guys really showed off some soccer skills, and the crowd was very into it. If you're interested in a similar event at your school, church or other group, visit kcwizards.com here for more details. Tell all your friends. This was very fun to attend, and the guys truly had a blast.

 25 Hours to Kickoff/Stories/Dave & Buster's Afterparty

Happy Friday all. Isn't it wonderful to look out and see a sunny sky on the day before a Wizards home match? Isn't it even more wonderful to check weather.com and see that the kickoff temperature tomorrow is supposed to be 67? Impeccable.

Today, Ives Galarcep wrote a great piece about the team at espnsoccernet.com. Read it here. Ives will try to post some other content from the Conrad and Onalfo interviews later at his site, www.soccerbyives.net. Check that out when you can.

Bob Luder wrote a nice piece today as well about the time switch and highlighted our six guys who have a real interest in this weekend's NCAA Final Four matches. See it here.

See everyone tomorrow! Game starts at 4 p.m. CT and will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on Metro Sports in English and TWC 5 in Spanish. Join us at Dave & Buster's after the match to eat some food, drink some drink and watch some ball.

Bruce Arena Heading to Kansas City

No sports fans, Coach Onalfo is not being replaced, and he's not adding another assistant to his staff. Former U.S. National Team coach Bruce Arena is, however, going to be in town for the weekend's match. Arena will join Sean Wheelock in the broadcast booth to serve as match analyst for the Metro Sports TV broadcast and La Playa 1480 radio simulcast.

Onalfo played under Arena at the University of Virginia and later at D.C. United in 1998. The two then joined up again with the U.S. National Team, where Onalfo served as Arena's assistant from 2003 until the time of his hiring here at the Wizards in 2006. As you all know, Arena left Red Bull New York last year and was later replaced by Juan Carlos Osorio.

Arena was also the subject of a mighty fine April Fool's prank by the one and only Ives Galarcep on Soccer by Ives on Tuesday.
